    OPERATIONS OP/1 OPERATIONS OFFICER (EVENTS)
    The Operations Department focuses on covering the following areas: (a) the creation and management of events, workshops and all other AfSU initiatives (b) the sub-management of resources, allocating funding and ensuring the continuity of AfSU services and (c) ensuring that AfSU remains a healthy and fun environment to work in and be part of.
    The role of Events Officer would involve you to:
    Support the Director and Deputy Director with the organisation of events and logistical issues. Liaise with the core AfSU departments to coordinate events and deliver timely performance. Possess exceptional operational knowledge of organising and managing a wide range of events from meetings to conferences, across different venues. Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and maintain steady under changing and flexible circumstances We'd recommend applicants hold the following characteristics:
    Strong sense of belonging and working with a team. Keen on gaining experience and knowledge of hosting events with large groups of people (usually 100+). Happy to invest time into making AfSU events successful whilst maintaining a balanced amount of work. Coming up with unique solutions presented by logistical challenges. The applicant should be someone who enjoys solving complex issues surrounding operational needs/requirements. Flexible with their time. AfSU can be used as a reference point on CVs/LinkedIn.   2. PROFESSIONALS/ACADEMICS OP1/AfSU/2 Professional Mentor

    OP1/AfSU/8 Professional Mentor
    This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for professionals who wish to support the younger generations of Afghanistan's diaspora.
    Professional Mentors (PM) are responsible for assisting students who contact AfSU for help and assist them using the subject team they have been allocated to.
    You will be responsible for providing support to undergraduate/postgraduate level students with subject help or advice on entering the job market. This help will typically be through the form of emails, and will run on an ad hoc basis based on the needs of the student. We recommend meeting with the student you have been assigned to for roughly thirty minutes-one hour a month virtually on MS Teams, as well as through AfSU events.
    The PM usually performs the following roles, but is not limited to:
    (a) assisting in the running and maintenance of the AfSU Mentorship Programme by mentoring university level students, in an in-person or virtual setting, 1-1. (b) demonstrating proficiency in providing academic support (where possible) and providing relevant advice on entry to post-university job markets or avenues; (c) holding events or being involved in academic conferences; (d) holding subject-specific knowledge on subjects that university students may benefit from. We recommend PMs have the following skill sets:
    Strong sense of belonging and working with a team. Happy to work with younger students who require help with their academic lives. Able to dedicate time to this and assist people to the best of their ability. Able to communicate on and use MS Teams. You should be willing to attend Team AfSU events and participate in the union's activities to the best of your ability. You should also demonstrate professionalism and take initiative. We encourage confidence in suggesting new ideas and concepts.  AfSU requires the following from all applicants:
    You must be a current professional working in industry. You must not have a criminal record. You will be expected to abide by the AfSU Constitution and various other policies which you will be acquainted with should your application be accepted. We take discipline extremely seriously and so you will be expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times and especially as a representative of the AfSU brand.

    OP1/AfSU/2 Student Mentor
    Student Mentors (SM) are responsible for assisting students who contact AfSU for help and assist them using the subject team they have been allocated to. You will be responsible for providing support to GCSE/A-level students with subject help or advice on entering university. This help will typically be through the form of emails, and will run on an ad hoc basis based on the needs of the student. We recommend meeting with the student you have been assigned to for roughly one hour a month.
    The SM usually performs the following roles, but is not limited to:
    (a) assisting in the running and maintenance of the AfSU Mentorship Programme by mentoring students, in an in-person or virtual setting, 1-1. (b) demonstrating proficiency in providing UCAS Help (interviews, personal statement reviews and the like); (c) holding events or being involved in academic conferences; (d) holding subject-specific knowledge on subjects that GCSE/A-level students may benefit from. We recommend STs have the following skill sets:
    Strong sense of belonging and working with a team. Keen on gaining experience and knowledge of hosting events with large groups of people (usually 100+). Happy to invest time into making AfSU events successful whilst maintaining a balanced amount of work and sharing this amongst the team you are assigned to. Happy to work with younger students who require help with their academic lives. Able to dedicate time to this and assist people to the best of their ability. Flexible with their time. Able to communicate on and use MS Teams. You should be willing to attend Team AfSU events and participate in the union's activities to the best of your ability. You should also demonstrate professionalism and take initiative. We encourage confidence in suggesting new ideas and concepts.  AfSU requires the following from all applicants:
    You must be a currently enrolled UK-based university student. A Disclosure and Barring Check (Enhanced) - valid for the entirety of your time as a mentor for AfSU, this can be provided to you by AfSU should you not have one already. A valid UK Passport or equivalent allowing you to work in the United Kingdom. You must not have a criminal record. If you are accepted, you will be required to attend mandatory student mentor trainings (3 trainings per academic year) to ensure the highest level of quality in the services AfSU provides. Safeguarding forms an intrinsic part of our union. You must be willing to read the KCSIE 2023 Part One statutory guidance on keeping children safe in education as well as attend/pass safeguarding trainings (online and in-house). You will be expected to abide by the AfSU Constitution and various other policies which you will be acquainted with should your application be accepted. We take discipline extremely seriously and so you will be expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times and especially as a representative of the AfSU brand. The SM is a voluntary, unpaid position however AfSU can be used as a reference point on CVs/LinkedIn. Joining AfSU also means you have access to internship and other academic opportunities unique to AfSU. You'll also be joining a community of like minded people who have similar goals and interests to yourself.
    Progression from this position involves entering directorship/leadership positions.
